About Gregory Park and Lake Gregory
Gregory Park is the lakeside park destination in Nuwara Eliya, Central Province, Sri Lanka. It is also searched as Gregory Lake Park or Gegari Park. Lake Gregory is the water body; the park name should not be treated as a promise that every lakeside access has the same ticket or hours.
This independent, nonprofit tourism and educational guide helps you find the destination and prepare questions for your visit. It is not the municipal council, an operator or a booking service.
Location and the entrance you need
The supplied Google Maps listing identifies Gregory Park in Nuwara Eliya. Open that place from the map section and plan from your actual starting point. A place marker represents a destination, not a surveyed or confirmed entrance.
The older guide used Plus Code XQ4G+PX6, with an approximate centre of 6.9567875, 80.777390625. Those approximate area coordinates remain the regional weather reference; they are not an entrance or accessibility survey. Confirm the relevant gate and drop-off with your driver or the operator.
Lake Gregory history: identify the account
The Central Province Tourism Department’s Ceylon Tea Trail account dates construction to 1874 and describes a dam across the Talagala and Nanu Oya streams. Municipal history associates the lake with Governor William Gregory’s 1872–1877 term. Published dates differ, so this guide does not present the former unsupported 1873 date as settled fact.
These sources explain the lake’s nineteenth-century context. They do not establish the current park boundary, management arrangements, admission tariff or activity schedule. Read the named sources below.
